Because I love snow! Got you thinking about your own winter adventure? But just what will that winter adventure be? Will it be skiing and skating. Or perhaps sledding and snowshoeing. Wait — dog sledding? Yes indeed! Dog sledding can be such a great family adventure. Read on, my snow-bound friend, to learn more about why I think you too might want to put dog sledding on your next winter family vacation adventure list. My boys and I lucked into a half-day dog sled adventure during a recent winter vacation to Yellowstone National Park more on that adventure later.
Good luck snowed down upon us — and snowed out somebody else. There was a cancellation due to a snow storm back east, and a sled was ours for the taking.
Check another item off my bucket list! The question remained — would it be worth the fairly steep price? It absolutely was! You be the judge — did we have fun? Our very own sled. After instructions on how to drive the sled and work with the dogs, we were presented with our own sled, complete with our own dog team! Each boy had his turn to drive, though my youngest was too young to drive alone.
He and I drove together. Snowy Fun. Though my youngest did knock me off the sled runner — twice! Fireside Break. A toasty warm fire to warm us up half way through, and hot chocolate and snacks to fill us up for the ride back to the kennels. Bonding time. They are such awesome creatures. I think so. You just need to find the right tour operator for your family. Many tours are family friendly, though there might be limitations with the youngest riders. Even cat-lovers can thoroughly enjoy the ride. Most tours offer the option of sitting in the sled for the entire duration of the ride.
Though for the more adventurous, make sure the tour allows you to mush. That was the highlight of our sledding experience, and you really want to mush your own sled. Convinced you to try dog sledding? Some words of wisdom for you. If you are considering booking your own family dog sled adventure, call the dog sled tour operator and speak directly with them.
