I must say, we did have a great time but Bretton Woods seems overrated. I'm sure those who can afford the hotel enjoy this ski area a lot more that we did. How Bretton Woods is calculated to be the "largest ski area in NH" is a mystery. I guess the skiable acreage is there having so many large glades but other NH areas simply seem bigger. Sunapee certainly does with slightly more than half of the very similar but definitely more interesting terrain. The open trails were all very similar and entirely beginner and intermediate level.
There were probably more challenging trails that were not open yet but looking at the map this area is clearly better for families with young children probably staying at the hotel. The trails were mostly wide, gentle slopes and they were well groomed. There is not a single lift that goes all the way to the top and the second lift that takes you just a bit further was more of a nuisance than a worthwhile effort but apparently necessary to get to the few black diamond trails that are not glades.
Though decent, no lift was particularly fast.

Being early in the season we were able to ski right on to the lift throughout the day but it was easy to imagine long lift lines developing later in the season. My daughter snarked that not offering free wireless in the lodge "really says something about a place".
I agreed. I use the Internet too who doesn't?
The large base lodge the only one was absolutely packed at lunch and it was hard to find a table. It must be ridiculous during peak season as all but the closest parking lot was empty on the day we visited. The cafeteria-style food on the main level was average and the upstairs restaurant and bar was small for "NH's Largest Ski Area". The efficient and polite bartender had the personality of a clerk at the DMV but there was at least good beer on tap. Given how expensive and far away this area is we'll continue to ski elsewhere unless there's another deal too good to pass up or if they get more snow than the others which is probably often being the northernmost ski area in NH.
We arrived to six inches of fresh snow when it had rained most everywhere else the day before. Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of your visit to Bretton Woods.

It is great to read that you had a great time skiing at Bretton Woods. Bretton Woods is in fact New Hampshire's largest ski area, with acres of skiing and snowboarding on 62 trails and 35 glades and three terrain parks. I invite you to return later in the season when snow conditions allow us to open more of the ski area, like the challenging terrain on West Mountain, or to explore the many glades in the Rosebrook area, including the Stickney glades.
There really is more than meets the eye once you start exploring during high season. I believe you may have visited following an early season snowstorm, and we were happy to see so many skiers and riders joining us that weekend. I do apologize for the difficulties you experienced with wireless internet connection. We are currently working to address connectivity issues so that we may provide better access for all guests at our location in the heart of the White Mountains. We got lucky and hit a Thanksgiving snow storm this year while in the area, so took advantage of it.
Much of the ski area wasn't open yet, so I can't comment too much about the overall mountain terrain. But our experience here was very nice, and I certainly found it to be a good family choice for some skiing.

What's really nice about it is that it's not too big, so it's pretty convenient which is a big plus. If you've never skied at larger areas than just know that going here is nice and compact There's a single main lodge where you can go to eat, get rentals, get passes, etc. And the upstairs area has a nice bar area, two fireplaces, a rock climbing wall and plenty of seating space. You are also able to sit inside and watch someone on the beginner area which may be a big plus for some.

We only had some soup at the restaurant but it was good. We did get rentals which was a very smooth experience by a team of friendly experts, and the price was pretty reasonable.
